Site overview and monitoring using the M600
Flying RIEGL’s miniVUX-1UAV DJI M600 integration solution at the RIEGL USA construction site has served to complete a comprehensive scan of the site and the property in large. One of the many benefits of UAV mounted LiDAR is it’s ability to access regions of your project that would be difficult to traverse, or unsafe to operate in otherwise.
The lightweight miniVUX-1UAV integrated onto DJI’s M600 platform allow for operators to scan any region of your project, with the ability to do so in a fraction of the time. At RIEGL USA’s construction site there are regions of thick vegetation which our TLS LiDAR operators are unable to access, with the miniVUX-1UAV and it’s ability to penetrate vegetation reliably, we can now get subsurface returns from this area which can be later used to design a digital elevation model for future land development. The miniVUX-1UAV also allows operators to gather point cloud data from features like rooftops and storm drains which can be later stitched into our TLS captured data using RIEGL software to create a comprehensive point cloud of the construction process, and the property in large.
In addition, TLS scans which do produce a lot of scan points also require a lot of time to scan a construction site, sometimes taking up to 4 hours at RIEGL USA’s construction site. The miniVUX-1UAV flown on DJI’s M600 at the same construction site can be scanned in 15 minutes, saving time and freeing up valuable resources. Both scanners have served their purpose during the construction process and have already proven their worth by identifying potential mistakes, reducing the potential for work stoppages and saving money.
